ANGLIAN LEAGUE - 2nd August, 2009

Team @ Bury St Edmunds.jpg

On Sunday the Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club travelled to Bury St Edmunds for the last Anglian League fixture of the season. With a good turnout and the possibility of some sections reaching the final, the athletes had plenty to compete for, in this tough fixture against the host team West Suffolk, City of Norwich, Huntingdon, Luton and Waveney. Our under 13 girls team has been getting better as the season goes on and Lauren Peach just returned from holiday had her best run in the 200m to finish 2nd in 29.4s, with Emily Anderson winning the B race in 31.5s. Katie Canham ran 15.5s in the hurdles for 4th place and Rhiannon Clark was 2nd in the B race in 17.2s. In the relay these girls finished 3rd in 63.8s and the team did really well to finish in 3rd place.

The under 15 girls did find the competition very tough with no winners at all Frankie Turner produced another good run in the hurdles taking 2nd place in 12.9s. Kelly Pywell worked hard in her 800m race to finish 3rd in 2m 45.3s. Amber Burton ran close to her personal best in the 200m finishing 3nd in 27.9s. Catherine Lee again produced a PB in the 1500m running 5m11.2s for her 3rd place, Louisa Marshall had her best run in the 200m B race taking 4th place in 30.3s. The team took 4th place.
Our inter-senior ladies had some good individual performance Katy Barber won the 100m in 12.8s but her fast 200m in 26.4s was very pleasing for her despite her 2nd place. Molly Baldwin finished 3rd in both the 100/200m B races in 13.6s/28.4s. Sophie McKinna had little trouble winning the shot with 11.92m and was 2nd in the B event discus throwing 20.89m. Emma Barwick in the A discus event has yet to hit her best form and was 5th throwing 22.42m. This section finishing 4th.
In the under 13 boys section we had only one winner Josh Clark ran a wonderfully controlled 800m just running away from the opposition in the last 100m to record a fast time of 2m33.5s. Jay Turner found the wind difficult to cope with in the javelin and his throw of 24.99m gave him 3rd place. Chris Spinks running in the 100m/200m had two fourth places with times of 15.3/32.6s. The team again finished 4th
In the under 15 boys section we had no winners but in the 200m A race Jordon Godfrey ran a PB of 26.2s for 3rd place and Mark Phillipson ran a PB of 26.8s for his 2nd place in the B race. Miguel Reyes competing for the first time made a good debut running 13.1s for his 4th place in the 100m and later jumped 1.50m for 3rd place in the high jump. Keelan Pywell could not find his best form in the 1500m and ran 5m 19.1s for 3rd place. Kyle Ella found himself in a very fast 800m race and he ran a PB of 2m32.7s to finish 4th. Again the team were in 4th place.
Our under 17 boys finished 3rd Richard Taylor in the 100m had a real head to head battle in the 100m just winning in 11.3s. The 200m saw Richard take 3rd place in the A race in 24.2s and Shane Atherton bounced back from a disqualification in the 100m to record a PB of 25.1s for 2nd place in the B race. James House jumped 1.50m for 2nd place in the high jump and 4.62m for 3rd place in the long jump. Ben Johnson put his holiday behind him and took 2nd place in the 400m in 56.8s. James Lee in the discus threw 16.26m for 3rd place.
Our junior/senior men had the best result of the day in 2nd place. Jahmal Mills set himself a busy schedule doing 6 events his best result was in the long jump winning with 6.36m. However his 2nd place in the triple jump with 12.81m was a very good performance. Josh Aldred free from injury at last showed some of his old form in the 100m finishing 2nd in 11.5s and Matthew Millman running the B race won in 12.0s. Kevin Pywell has reached his first target in his come back trail breaking 12min for the 3000m finishing 3rd in 11m 58.1s whats next 11mins.

The overall team result was 1st City of Norwich 930, 2nd West Suffolk 634, 3rd Luton 589, 4th great Yarmouth 426, 5th Great Yarmouth , 5th Waveney 103, 6th Huntingdon 94.

The club now waits for other league results to see if any sections have reached the finals in September
