ANGLIAN LEAGUE - 21st June 2009

 

On Sunday the Great Yarmouth & District Athletic Club travelled to Kings Lynn for the 2nd fixture in the Anglian League. The match was against host club West Norfolk, Ryston, Peterborough, City of Norwich, Ipswich and Diss. This was to be a very tough fixture in the inter /senior ladies section Sophie McKinna having been selected for the county schools team for the England schools championships at Sheffield continued her winning ways in the shot with 11.30m, with Katy Barber taking 2nd place in the B event with 6.18m. In the 100m Katy Barber ran 13.0s for 2nd place and new comer Molly Baldwin ran 13.9s for 3rd place in the B event, to help the team to 4th place. In the under 15 girls age group we had the rare site of two winners in the 1500m with Catherine Lee winning the A race (5m 21.0s) and Frankie Turner the B race in 5m 28.5s. Louisa Marshall added another victory in the discus with a best ever throw of 19.97m. Amber Burton had two 3rd places in the 100 & 200m in times of 13.5 & 27.7s with the team finishing 5th. Our under 13 girls had one winner when Lauren Peach running in the 100m just took first place in 14.1s. with Lucy Brice taking 4th place in the B race in 15.7s. Emily Anderson had a great race in the 800m to take 2nd place (2m 52.8s) with Daisy Taylor finishing 3rd in the B race in 3m 02.4s. Kate Canhan competing in her first ran 32.7s for 3rd place in the 200m and put in a good run in the 1500m for 4th place in 6m 11.0s. Another new competitor Rhiannon Clark ran in the 800m and 200m with times of 3m 13.8s and 35.2s. the team finished 5th. Abbie McKinna competing in the under 11 events had her best run in the 80m finishing in 14.9s
Our junior/senior men section had one winner Jahmal Mills in the long Jump with 6.55m. Chris Peck produced two personal bests in the 100m 11.7s in 2nd place and 25.5s in the 200m in 5th place . Wesley Attew is beginning to find some form again and jumped 1.70m in the high jump for 3rd place. Kevin Pywell could not resist the urge to compete again and after 20 years put on his running vest to compete in the 3000m finishing in 5th place in a time of 12m 11.3s well done Kevin. The team finished 5th . In the under 17 boys section James House had our best result with 2nd place in the javelin with 28.59m and James Lee was also 2nd in the B event with 15.19m. Shane Atherton had his best run ever in the 200m finishing in 3rd place in 25.3 to help the team finish 3rd. In the under 15 boys Mark Phillipson had his best result in the shot with 9.26m for 2nd place and ran 28.1s for 3rd place in the 200m. Keelan Pywell ran another good 1500m taking 2nd place in 5m 04.7s and Oliver Brice was 4th in the 100m in 15.6s. Kyle Ella running in the 800m put in an excellant run finishing 4th in 2m 34.3s and then had a 3rd place in the 400m with a time of 70.0s to help the team finish 4th. Our under 13 boys team best result was Jay Turner who threw 19.42m in the javelin for 2nd place and ran 2m 47.2s for 5th place in the 800m the team was 6th.
