Over Saturday and Monday evening athletes competed at Kings Lynn and Norwich for Norfolk County titles over a range of events. Yarmouth athletes had a good two days winning a good selection of medals. Under 20 mens athlete Josh Aldred just concentrating on the 100m put in an excellent run against a strong wind to take the title in 11.8s, with Matthew Millman taking the 3rd place in 12.4s. Jahmal Mills in the same age group ran 23.9s for 2nd placein the 200m and was also 2nd in the long jump with 6.38m. Wesley Attew is slowly returning to form and a 1.70 meter high jump gave him 2nd place.
Sophie McKinna had little trouble winning the U17 girls shot with a new PB of 11.21m and then added a bronze to her gold in finishing 3rd in the 100m in 14.5s. In the boys under 17 age group Ben Johnson put in a confident run in the 400m for a bronze medal with a time of 57.9s. James House put in two good performances in winning the bronze in the high jump and long jump with 1.60m and 5.05m. Shane Atherton was very unlucky to miss out on a medal in the 100m finishing 4th in 13.2s.
In the under 15 girls age group Catherine Lee running in the 3000 meters for the first time took control of the race after a couple of laps and slowly pulled away from the field although Frankie Turner never gave up chasing her which gave her 2nd place in times of 11m39.1s & 12m05.1s a very encouraging result for them. Earlier Frankie Turner won silver in the 75m hurdles running a good time of 13.6s. Louisa Marshall threw 15.87m in the discus for 3rd place and had a good run in the 100m to reach the final finishing 7th in the final running a best time of 14.5s.
Under 15 boy Keelan Pywell running the 3000m put in a good personal best run to finish 3rd in 11m08.6s. Mark Phillipson had two good runs in the 100 & 200m taking two silver medals with times of 13.3s & 26.5s.
Emma Barwick competing in the womens discus retained her title from last year throwing 20.91m
In the U11 age group Patrick Manning had a good run in the 600m for his silver medal recording a best time of 2m07.0s Whilst Amy Dowsett running in the girls 600m had to battle hard over the last 50m to secure her 3rd place in 2m09.6s
On Monday evening in the relays the under 15 girls team of Amber Burton, Louisa Marshall, Frankie Turner, & Kelly Pywell. Finished 2nd in the 4 x 200m & 3rd in the 4x 100m. The under 20 team of Jahmal Mills, Matthew Millman, Shane Atherton & Kyle Burton won both the 4 x 100 & 4x 400m relays.
Two Yarmouth athletes competed in the Suffolk County Champs at Ipswich Katy Barber under 17 girl had her best run in the 200m running into a strong head wind she won the silver medal with a time of 27.8s. Chris Peck U20B also had his best run in the 200m taking the bronze medal in a time of 26.5s
